Tuesday, 31 August 2010 21:03
The Ministry of Health wishes to express sincere thanks to Dr. Horace Betton, outgoing Senior Medical Officer (SMO) at the St. Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital for his many years of service in the health sector. Dr. Betton recently retired after giving 29 years of service. He was appointed as SMO in 1997 and held that position until his retirement.

“We were blessed to have Dr. Betton as part of our family. He was a man noted for his managerial and people skills and he contributed immensely towards the development of the skills of workers by employing his training expertise”, said Dr. Sheila Campbell Forrester, Chief Medical Officer.

Dr. Betton began his practice at the St. Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital in 1981 as a paediatrician then went on to become a consultant in that field of medicine in 1984. In 1995 he was promoted to the position of Senior Medical Officer and was appointed to the position in 1997.

Throughout the years Dr. Betton was known to be a caring individual who was committed to his work. He made an indelible mark in and around the community and was not afraid to go the extra mile by offering free services to members of the community.  He also donated equipment to the hospital.

Dr. Campbell Forrester said that “I want to thank Dr. Betton for his 29 years of dedicated service to the government health sector. He has been a true public servant and will be greatly missed. We wish him all the best as he starts another chapter in his life.”
